RESTORATION OF INSTRUMENTS CLUSTER

I received with the car a spare instrument cluster that didn't look that good, but neither does the one installed in the car, so I decided to try to restore it myself and see how it was going to turn out, here are some pictures with explanation of the process.

This is the state of the cluster as I received it.  The speedometer is working (checked it with a drill) as well as the trip odometer.
The temperature and fuel gauges are missing and is understandable because the original temperature sender was a capillary one filled with ether, and usually has been broken long ago.
Replaced the temp gauge with an electric adaptation made in Holland by Huke Basart (http://www.hukebasart.nl/huke/en/) Electronic_temperature_meter). Will replace the fuel gauge with the one presently installed in the car which I hope to get working

The bezel has been taken off to get access to the apparently brass cover plate underneath, which was originally covered with a light grey wrinkled paint, but now is mainly bare because the painted has chipped away.  I wasn't successful in getting a new plate anywhere. I sanded the plate and painted it with Duple-Color Textured Metallic
Removing the brass cover plate was a chore, apparently it had been glued in some parts and as it is quite thin it bends and dents really easily.  I tried to be as careful as possible, however it ended up with some damage which I tried to repair without much success.
Removing the brass plate allowed access to the speedometer face and the chassis of the cluster, permitting a good clean up job. the four holes besides the odometer and mileage counter have rubber grommets, which were hardened by age and one of them was broken.  I could not get them anywhere and even tried to have them made without success, so I fixed them as best as I could and re installed them.

The picture below shows on the left  the grommet height and on the right its diameter.

These pictures show the new temperature gauge installed, both on the back and how it looks, just as the original in the front.

Below is the final result
